YOUR CONFESSION

Lyrics and music by Winston Apple

It was four a.m. and I was so far from home
I was sound asleep and in my dreams you seemed so happy
Then the phone rang
And when the phone rings at four a.m. it’s never good news
The tone of your voice sounded a warning
There was no way for me to heed that warning

When you made your confession
There was no one there to see my expression
As it changed from apprehension to anguish and grief
I felt myself fall into pieces
I knew it would be up to me to pick up the pieces
You couldn’t help me once you had made your confession

I tried to fight back the tears, but for once in my life I lost that fight
I put the receiver back in its place and I broke down crying

It took some time, but the pain subsided and as it did, I began to realize
Though life will never be the same without you
Life is sweet even without you
I must confess that your confession
In some strange way turned out to be a blessing
Left on my own, I was able to find my way home
You had become my obsession
But you broke the spell when you made your confession
You set me free and oh how I love to be free
And the price I paid for my freedom was your confession
