The proceeds from this show will benefit Populists In Action and other co-sponsoring organizations.

Winston's friends for this show (Terry Swope on guitar, Robert Leonard on bass, Jim Cavenaugh on drums and Butch Smith on sax) will perform a set in between Winston's sets.

Citizens of Missouri may initiate legislation as either a state statute or a constitutional amendment. In Missouri, citizens also have the power to repeal legislation via veto referendum. 

This is an organizational meeting for The Direct Democracy Initiative, which will be a Political Action Committee that will provide volunteers and funding to put individual ballot measures before the voters using the initiative process and to promote the passage of those initiatives.

Winston is running for a seat in the Missouri House this year.  Reforming public education is among his top priorities.

EMS workers in Independence recently voted to form a union.  Winston is throwing a "birthday party" for them.  The Jammin' Jan Band will perform.  Winston will do a couple of solo/acoustic sets while the band is on break.

Union membership has been in decline for decades.  A new union is something to celebrate.  We new a lot more new unions and a lot more support for unions from consumers and business.

MoveOn is kicking off a powerful national campaign to challenge the Koch brothers' toxic influence on our democracy. The Koch brothers are ultraconservative billionaires who plan to spend $300 million in the 2014 elections alone in an effort to roll back voter and worker rights, get rid of the minimum wage, re-segregate our schools, deny climate change, dismantle Social Security, and pollute our environment.

 The effort is part of national campaign to educate and mobilize communities about the Koch brothers, who are intent on destroying the social safety net and other valued American institutions in their pursuit of profit and a radical right-wing agenda, and to mobilize communities to fight back to reclaim our American democracy

The rally is in support the inscription on the base of The Statue of Liberty:

If we don't mean it, we should put a curtain over it and pull back the curtain when we are ready to live up to our ideals.

We will set up in the Pavilion. Use the entrance that is farthest north, then come south.

There are seats for 64, a playground for the kids right next to the pavilion, water fountains and restroom facilities, as well as tennis courts and a baseball diamond.

Winston is running for a seat in the Missouri House representing the 29th District. He will be unveiling his platform as part of a comedy bit called "Now that's the truth, or April Fools." Republican beliefs and proposals will be mixed in with Winston's own proposals and beliefs. The audience will guess whether each statement is Winston's ("Now that's the truth" or comes from the Republicans ("April Fools")

This event immediately follows Winston's Inaugural Campaign Address (5 pm - East Steps of Jackson Country Historic Courthouse). Instead of the usual question and answer period, the relaxed setting in a banquet room at Cafe Verona will allow voters the opportunity to make comments and ask questions, of Winston and of each other. 

There is no admission charge. The meal is BYOM (Buy your own meal). This is not a $$$ per plate type of political dinner. It is not a fund-raising event. Everyone is welcome regardless of your political views. The only restriction on comments or question is that the tone and substance of the comments remain respectful and civil. In the true spirit of the First Amendment.

If you are looking to hurl insults, engage in name-calling, etc., please do not attend. You will not be allowed to stay if you become disruptive. 

Cafe Verona has excellent food at reasonable prices and a lovely atmosphere. It should be a wonderful evening. Reservations are recommended as seating will be limited. To make reservations, please phone the restaurant at (816) 833-0044. Tell them you want a reservation for "Let's Discuss This Over Dinner." (Also please "Join" this event on this page.
